Maximum file size: 20MB

What This Tool Does

Split every page: Produces one separate PDF for each page of the document.

Custom ranges: Define page ranges such as 1 to 5 and 6 to 12, each becoming its own PDF.

ZIP download: All the resulting PDFs are returned together in a single ZIP archive.

How to Split a PDF

  1. Upload the PDF you want to split.
  2. Choose Every page as separate file, or Custom ranges if you want specific sections.
  3. For custom ranges, enter a start and end page for each part and add more rows as needed.
  4. Download the ZIP archive and extract it to get the individual PDFs.

Choosing Between the Two Modes

Every-page mode is the right choice when you need each sheet on its own, for example when separating a batch of scanned certificates or forms that were captured in one pass.

Custom ranges suit a document with a structure you want to keep intact, such as pulling out pages 1 to 4 as one section and 5 to 20 as another. Each range becomes one PDF containing those pages in order.

Limits

  • One PDF per operation.
  • The document may contain up to 300 pages.
  • Requests are rate limited to ten per minute from the same address.
  • A range that ends beyond the last page is trimmed to the final page.

Common Use Cases

  • Separating a multi-page scan into individual documents.
  • Extracting a specific chapter or section to share on its own.
  • Pulling out the pages a portal asks you to upload separately.
  • Breaking an oversized file into smaller parts.

Limitations

Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before they can be split. The page count is detected on the server during processing rather than shown in the browser as soon as you select the file.

As with merging, each output page is rebuilt into a new PDF, so form fields and some annotations may not carry over.

Privacy and Processing

Splitting runs on our server, so the PDF is uploaded. It is used only to create your archive, the download is removed after it is sent, and temporary files are cleared automatically.

Split PDF into Pages FAQ

What is the difference between the two modes?

Every-page mode produces one PDF for each page, which suits separating a batch of scanned documents. Custom ranges mode produces one PDF per range you define, which suits extracting a chapter or section as a single file.

How do I extract just a few specific pages?

Choose custom ranges and enter a start and end page for each part you want. Add a row for each additional range, for example 1 to 4 as one file and 9 to 12 as another.

Why is the result a ZIP file?

Splitting produces several PDFs, so they are packaged into one ZIP archive to be delivered together. Extract the archive to get the individual documents.

What happens if my range goes past the last page?

The range is trimmed to the final page of the document, so you still get a valid file rather than an error.

Is there a page limit?

Yes. The document may contain up to 300 pages, and requests are limited to ten per minute from the same address.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

No. Unlock it first with our lock and unlock tool, then split the unprotected copy.
