Every page vs ranges

Every-page mode is for a stack of scanned certificates that arrived as one file. Custom ranges keep a chapter together: 1–4 as one PDF, 5–20 as another. Ranges past the last page are trimmed.

What is the difference between the two modes?

Every-page mode produces one PDF for each page, which suits separating a batch of scanned documents. Custom ranges mode produces one PDF per range you define, which suits extracting a chapter or section as a single file.

How do I extract just a few specific pages?

Choose custom ranges and enter a start and end page for each part you want. Add a row for each additional range, for example 1 to 4 as one file and 9 to 12 as another.

Why is the result a ZIP file?

Splitting produces several PDFs, so they are packaged into one ZIP archive to be delivered together. Extract the archive to get the individual documents.

What happens if my range goes past the last page?

The range is trimmed to the final page of the document, so you still get a valid file rather than an error.

Is there a page limit?

The document may contain up to 300 pages. Splitting every page into its own file is capped at 150 pages — use custom ranges for larger files. Requests are limited to ten per minute.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

No. Unlock it first with our lock and unlock tool, then split the unprotected copy.
