How the Check Works
When you click check, your text is sent to our server, which forwards it to the LanguageTool API and returns the results. LanguageTool is a well-established proofreading engine that detects spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, punctuation problems and common style issues.
This is a genuine grammar engine rather than a handful of pattern matches, so it catches real problems such as subject-verb disagreement and confused word pairs. Checking is currently performed for English.
How to Use It
- Paste the text you want checked.
- Click Check Grammar and wait for the response.
- Read each reported issue along with its explanation.
- Apply the suggestions you agree with by editing your own text.
What It Typically Catches
- Spelling mistakes and typing slips.
- Subject-verb agreement problems.
- Missing or misplaced punctuation, including comma errors.
- Commonly confused pairs such as their and there, or its and it's.
- Doubled words and spacing mistakes.
- Some wordiness and style suggestions.
Limits
- Text is limited to 20,000 characters per check.
- Up to 20 issues are displayed at a time, so a heavily flagged text may show only the first batch.
- Checking is in English; other languages are not selectable here.
- Requests are rate limited to ten per minute from the same address.
- The result depends on the external service being reachable; if it is unavailable you will see a warning rather than a result.
How to Treat the Suggestions
No automated checker understands your intent. It will sometimes flag correct writing, particularly proper nouns, technical vocabulary, deliberate stylistic choices and informal dialogue. It will also miss errors where a sentence is grammatically valid but says the wrong thing.
The output does not replace your text automatically, which is deliberate. Read each suggestion and decide, rather than accepting everything.
Privacy and Processing
This tool is not browser-only. Your text is transmitted to our server and then to the LanguageTool API in order to be checked, which means a third party processes it. Please do not paste confidential or personal information you are not comfortable sending to an external service.
